A Quick Guide to: PB20 Fabric Technology - Understanding Breathable DWR Fabric

Our PB20 Fabric used in our Southerly Offshore range is our highest rated fabric and designed to be:

PB20 and the Southerly Offshore range has been consistently developed, tested and refined over many seasons to withstand the rigours of offshore sailing.

The PB20 fabric is made up of three layers:

A durable water-resistant (DWR) outer layer

A secondary breathable, microporous membrane designed to wick sweat away and eliminate over-heating

And a third inner fabric or lining for extra comfort.

Why Breathable?

Your comfort can heavily depend on the breathability of your jacket. If you plan on being active while wearing your jacket, the most important thing is to stay dry whilst maintaining comfort. This means allowing our sweat to escape, whilst keeping moisture out.

Waterproofing

A coating on the outside of the fabric (DWR) is one of the most important factors of a garments waterproof efficiency. The DWR coating causes water to bead and to simply roll off your garment, instead of allowing it to seep into the fabric. There are of course different levels of waterproofing - based on the amount of water the fabric will repel or withstand.

Our PB20 fabric performs to the highest standards - meaning you will remain dry, warm and comfortable in the worst possible conditions.
