The Burke Marine crew have long been champions for better mental health, and this June we're getting behind the Push Up Challenge for a second time.
Running from June 5-28, it's all about getting fit, having fun and learning more about mental health.
The challenge is for every crew member to complete 3,249 push ups in 24 days. Why 3,249? Sadly, this is the number of Australians who lost their lives to suicide in 2022.
As well as taking up the Challenge, the Burke crew are raising funds to support Lifeline Northern Beaches. For sixty years, Lifeline has been connecting with Australians in need through crisis support and suicide prevention services.
Please help support this worthy cause and donate now.
We recognise the profound connection between the ocean and our well-being. We are excited to share insights into how ocean activities can significantly enhance mental health.
The Healing Power of the Ocean
Research shows that regular engagement in ocean activities like swimming, snorkeling, surfing, and kayaking can greatly improve mental health. Here are some key benefits:
1. Improved Mood: Studies reveal that being in or near water can elevate mood and reduce negative emotions such as tension, anger, and fatigue. For instance, open water swimming has been linked to decreased symptoms of depression and anxiety.
2. Stress Reduction: The immersive nature of ocean activities facilitates a deeper connection with nature, helping to reduce stress and enhance overall well-being.
3. Physical and Mental Well-being: Activities like snorkeling and swimming not only boost physical health but also support mental wellness by providing a calming and restorative experience.
